Luke: The Temptation of Jesus
Sermon Overview:
Luke 4:1-13
Jesus, as the new Adam, the new Israel, the new Son of God submitted himself to the father, and to the Spirit, and walked into the hardship and trial of the wilderness. And there he took on agonizing temptation within his body... and there he overcame. But he didn’t do it for his sake, he did it for our sake.
Sermon Outline:
1. The context of Jesus' temptation (v.1-2)
2. The content of the Devil's tempting (v.3-12)
3. The reasons for Jesus' temptation
Questions for further discussion:
1. What are the root problems that cause all the pain and destruction in the world?
2. What is the significance of Jesus crossing the Jordan, going into the wilderness for 40 days, fasting and being tempted by the Devil?
3. What makes the Devil's offers so tempting to Jesus?
