Our Emmanuel, God for Us (Luke 1:70-71)
Sermon Overview:
The promise of a "God with us," was also a promise of "God for us." God fights for His people.Understanding who Jesus came to fight helps our understanding of who Jesus is. Just like first century Israel, we expect God to defeat our enemies, but just like first century Israel, we don’t understand who are real enemies are, so, just like first century Israel we reject Jesus’ Lordship over us.
Sermon Outline:
1) Jesus came to save us from our enemies
2) God's people don't know who the true enemies are
3) Jesus came to defeat our true enemies; Satan, sin and death
Ascent Text:
Psalm 123:1-2
Scripture Reading:
Luke 1:68-79
