Luke: Jesus’ Call to Fish (Luke 5:1-11)
Sermon Overview:
Luke 5:1-11
Jesus is the image of the invisible God, for in him the fullness of God dwells fully. So when we see what Jesus did with the fish, and what he does for the people, we see God acting, living, breathing, and ministering among us, and calling us to join him in that ministry. He is calling his church to go after people like he did.
Sermon Outline:
1. The Story
2. The Metaphor
3. The Call
Questions for further discussion:
1. What do you think it would have been like to have been Simon or one of the fisherman in the boat when Jesus asks you to lower the nets after you have fished all night?
2. What would you have thought and felt when you couldn’t pull the nets up because of the amount of fish and your boat started sinking?
3. What implications does Jesus’ call have for the church?
4. If you were to go after the people God has placed around you, what might that look like?
Scripture Reading:
Acts 2:22-41
