Luke: John's Call to Repentance
Sermon Outline:
Luke 3:1-14
1. The Context (v.1-2)
2. The Message (v.3-9)
3. The Response (v.10-14)
Sermon Overview:
The Lord only comes to bring salvation when people are confronted with their sin, turning from their sin, and are turning to the Lord for forgiveness. We are often tempted to just tell people to believe in Jesus, and yet, forget that there is no Jesus without repentance. And there will be no repentance unless people are confronted with their sin.
Questions for further discussion:
1. How does the context, in which John arrives, have some similarities to ours? What are some differences?
2. What made the context, in which John began preaching, necessary for him to preach as he did before the coming of Jesus?
3. Why is John's message necessary for sinners to hear?
4. What does it mean to repent? Why is repentance necessary to receiving the grace of God? And if appropriate to share, what are some ways you need to repent?
