Luke: The Mission of Jesus

Sermon Overview:
Jesus came to this world to accomplish something that impacts all of us, but is only efficacious for the worst of us. We all NEED to be saved, but only those who truly understand that receive it. Our being brought low is the greatest God can grant, because only then will Jesus lift you up.

Sermon Outline:
1. Jesus was sent to proclaim good news to the humble
2. Jesus was sent to set the prisoners free
3. Jesus was sent to heal the blind
4. Jesus was sent to set at liberty the oppressed

Questions for further reflection:
1. why does one need to be poor in spirit before they can hear good news?
2. What is it like to be imprisoned by sin? Why do we try so hard to free ourselves?
3. Why does blindness convey so well the state of those who are outside of Christ?
4. Who were the oppressed in the Bible, and why is the year of Jubilee such a great picture of salvation for the oppressed?

Scripture Reading:
Isaiah 61:1-7
