The Gospel according to Ruth (Ruth 1:1-22)
Sermon Overview:
Ruth 1:1-22
The story of Ruth isn't just about God moving history toward the promised messiah but also presents the gospel in miniature.
The Gospel according to Ruth is that God draws people to Himself through trials of fire and the witness of His children to fill the empty with transforming love.
In Ruth, a Jew and a gentile are united by love into a community of sacrifice and service foreshadowing God's plan for the church. Naomi enters this community through trials of fire that purify her while Ruth enters through the grace and goodness of a believer's character.
Ruth and Naomi are united in bonds deeper than daughter-in-law and mother-in-law. And this bond of transforming love sets the community of God ablaze.
