Luke: Seeing God in the Arrival of John

Sermon Overview:
Luke 1:57-80
We live in a world with everyday actions and occurrences, and sometimes things that seem out of control, chaotic and wrong. And because of this we can often wonder where God is at in all of it. We can also wish that God would simply speak to us to assure us, guide us and help us when we need it most. Yet, as we see from this account of the arrival of John the baptizer, God is at work in all the detail of life, and his Word is spoken to us clearly, we simply have to learn to recognize him, and understand his ways in our lives. Because once we do, it is a great comfort and an encouragement to our faith.

Sermon Outline:
1. The Acts of God in our world
2. The Word God speaks to us

Questions for further discussion:
1. Do you ever which you could see God or hear from him?
2. What do you think it would do for your faith if God showed up so you could see him, or if he spoke to you directly?

4. How does God speak to you today, and how well would you say you listen?
