Loving Your Neighbor: It is salt and light to the world

Sermon Overview: Sometimes we aren’t aware of the blessing and impact our actions have on the world. Yet, when we are those who are marked by the beatitudes in the midst of this world, we are those who are savor and light to the world. The work of grace by God, is the blessing of grace to the world.

Sermon Outline:
1) You are the salt of the earth
2) You are the light of the world
3) Let that light shine

Scripture Reading:
Matthew 5:1-16

Questions for further discussion:
1. Why are salt and light such good metaphors in the ancient world for the effects of the church on the world?
2. When and why do we lose our saltiness?
3. What kind of things do we do that diminish our salt and light, and what kind of things increase them?
4. What kind of things could your community group do together that would allow you to be savory and delightful to your surrounding community?

From Series: "Loving Your Neighbor"

As a Christian it is easy to become nice, and confuse it for love. But when we understand the love of God, especially in the life of Jesus, we are motivated beyond niceness, because we are compelled to love as we have been loved. This means that our neighbors are going to be impacted by the love that we express, and the world is going to be changed.
