Luke: The Temptation of Jesus Pt.2

Sermon Overview:
Luke 4:2-12
Jesus was tempted in every way that we are, yet without sin. This is what makes him our savior, and faithful mediator before God. We don’t look to Jesus as an example until we first look to him as savior. This is because we can’t get free until we fall before Jesus in true humility, brought from the weight and oppression of our own sin, and look to him alone to save us. Then, once free, we can look to him as our example in dealing with the enemy.

Sermon Outline:
1. The Devil hits at the weakest point of our flesh (v.2-4)
2. The Devil stirs up ambition (v.5-8)
3. The Devil plants seeds of doubt (v.9-12)

Questions for further discussion:
1. How would you define temptation? Is that what Jesus experienced?
2. Why does the Devil look for weaknesses in our? How do we stand strong and resist the Devil?
3. Does the Devil have free reign with us? Can we be tempted to any degree?
4. How do we keep our desires, ambitions and doubts in check?

Scripture Reading:
