Luke: Jesus’ Authority Over Demons

Sermon Overview:
Luke:4:31-37
Jesus is the true Lord who has come to set the captives free by delivering them from the power and grip of demons. And we see that his very presence commands respect and fear, while his very words cause demons to tremble and release their captives.

Sermon Outline:
1. Jesus’ presence commands demons' respect and fear (v.33-34)
2. Jesus’ word causes demons to flee and release their captives (v.32, 35-36)

Questions for further discussion:
1. Have you ever experienced the power of a person’s presence before? If so, describe its affect.
2. What do you think it would have been like to be a demon and recognize Jesus?
3. What would it be like to speak and bring anything you wanted into existence, or speak and have anything in existence obey you? Are you glad you don’t have that power? What is it like to know that Jesus has that kind of power?
4. Knowing that Jesus sets people free simply by crying out to him and trusting in him, how does that effect the way you look at all the people in bondage in Lynnwood?

Scripture Reading:
Mark 3:7-27
