With Parenting; You Need to Deal with the Heart

Sermon Overview:
From the heart flow the issues of life, so if you don’t get at the heart, you are not truly going to disciple your children. Our children will grow to give you what you want and behave in ways that keep them out of trouble, and allow them to receive the most blessings, but if we don’t address the heart, we really are missing the whole point.

Sermon Outline:
1. The Bible’s Focus on the Heart
2. The Shaping Influences
3. The Need to Aim at the Heart
4. The Way to Address the Heart

Scripture Reading:
Matthew 15:1-18

Questions for further discussion:
1. Why is it so tempting to focus purely on behavior?
2. What priority do the Scriptures place on the heart? Why?
3. What impact do shaping influences have on us? Are they absolute, and perfect in their impact, or are there other factors involved in shaping our hearts?
4. How do we best address the issues of the heart? How do we need to lead the way with our children?
