Sermon Synopsis: David despised the word of the Lord. The resulting judgement; a sword that will not depart from his house, has left his concubines and Israel's tribes widowed, without an inheritance in the son of Jesse. But there always remains a remnant, the true bride of Yahweh who is Lady Wisdom. She rises up to defend her house and the heritage of the living God by crushing the head of the snake.
The Lord promised to raise up a new king from the stump of Jesse. How did Jesse's tree become a stump? The books of Samuel tell the story of David's rise to King and his successes and failures on the throne. The life of David is a type of the life of Christ that is full of warnings and encouragement for those who follow Christ.
